Change cards: apply and undo

Every change Spot or your own agent prepares reaches you as a change card, unless your setting under Settings, Agents applies that kind of change at once. A card changes nothing in your project until you press Apply, and many changes can be undone for 10 minutes.

Updated October 22, 2026Markdown

Spot reads your project and answers your questions. Sometimes an answer calls for a change, such as parking pages, setting a new rule or starting an outline. Spot does not make that change. It leaves a change card under the answer, and you decide what happens: apply it, edit it, dismiss it or, after applying, undo it. Your own agent, connected over MCP, works the same way. Whatever it asks for lands as the same cards. Where your setting under Settings, Agents applies that kind of change at once, it is made at once instead, with "Take back" for a day.

Use this page when a card appears in the Spot panel or under "Waiting for you" on Settings, Agents, and you want to know what each button does.

Why Spot never makes the change itself

  • The platform works out a card's title, term lines and counts from your real rows when it makes the card. The AI does not write them, so the numbers on the card are the numbers Apply works on.
  • Apply runs as you, in your name, with your role. Your access is checked again at the moment you press it.
  • Only the person who asked can decide a card ("Only the person who asked can decide this card."). For your agent's cards, that person is you, because you made its token.
  • Spot and your agent cannot hide a term from you. The card lists every term they asked for, and only your edit leaves one out.

What a card shows

  • A title in plain words, for example "Park 38 pages", "New rule for <project>", "Focus for today's deck", "Add 12 keywords" or "Outline a page on <topic>".
  • A summary that adds what the title leaves out, for example "Apply checks today's research allowance first." or "Nothing sends without your approval."
  • Term lines, each a label and a value. Where something moves, the line shows before and after ("New → Parked" on a park card, "8 a day → 12 a day" on a budget card).
  • A meta line with the row count, the undo window and the time left, for example "38 rows, undo for 10 minutes, expires in 23 h".
  • A badge, "From your agent (Dana's assistant)", on a card your agent asked for.
  • Buttons: "Apply" ("Apply rule" or "Apply focus" on a steering card, "Approve mandate" on a mandate), "See all N" when the card touches more than one row, "Edit" where you can leave terms out, and "Dismiss" ("Decline" on a mandate).

How to apply a card

  1. Read the title, the summary and the term lines.
  2. On a card that touches more than one row, press "See all N" to open the screen those rows live on, such as Opportunities, Keywords or Outreach, and check the set.
  3. If the card offers "Edit", press it to leave terms out, then press "Done".
  4. Press "Apply". The card shows what you did, for example "You parked 35 pages. 3 pages had moved on and stay where they are.", and a toast says the same.
  5. Changed your mind? Press "Undo (9 min left)" while the window runs.

If you press Apply twice, or in two tabs, the change runs once. The second press finds the card already decided.

Edit a card before you apply it

"Edit" puts a checkbox beside each term. Uncheck the ones you do not want, and the card says "2 terms left out. Apply uses the rest." Press "Done", then Apply.

  • An edit only narrows a card. It never adds a term or raises a limit.
  • Edit appears on cards whose terms you can leave out one by one: a new rule, a focus, a short list of keywords, a list of competitors, and a mandate.
  • Cards that move or work on pages (park, bring back, promote, contact research, nudges) have no Edit. Check the list behind "See all N" and dismiss the card if the set is wrong.
  • If you leave every term out, nothing is applied and the card says so. A steering card reads "Every term was left out. There is nothing to apply."

Some steering cards also offer "Make it a rule" or "Just for today", for when Spot read your sentence the wrong way. It switches the card between a standing rule for the project and a focus on your own deck for today. The terms stay the same, and the counts are worked out again. It shows only when every term can be either kind, such as a kind of card left out of the deck. Switching off listings or community posts is always a rule. The deck explains rules and focus.

Undo, dismiss and expiry

  • Undo lasts 10 minutes after Apply, on the cards that offer it: park, bring back, add or remove keywords, a new rule and a focus. Undo puts each row back as it was. Rows that another change has moved since then stay where they are. Undoing a rule or a focus ends it.
  • After the 10 minutes, end a rule from its chip in the deck header, from the Engine room or from the Steering section of Autopilot, Rules. Clear a focus from its chip or from the Engine room.
  • Some cards have no undo: the ones that start work (promote, contact research, nudges, a pipeline run, an outline, a site check or a site read), plus adding competitors, setting today's budget, ending a rule and clearing a focus.
  • Dismiss closes the card and changes nothing. The card then reads "Dismissed." A mandate you decline reads "You declined it. Your agent can ask again."
  • A card you leave expires after 24 hours and reads "This card expired." Press "Ask again" to send the same question again. An agent's card reads "This card expired. Your agent can ask again."
  • If Apply fails, the card says why, for example "Apply could not complete. Nothing was changed."

Apply at once or ask first

"Apply at once or ask first", under Settings, Agents, decides whether a change Spot or your agent prepares applies at once or waits for you as a card. It has a row for each kind of change: "Tidying up", "What you track", "Paid work", "Standing rules", "Client-facing links and text" and "Emails and posts to publishers", one column for Spot and one for your agents.

  • Each row is "Apply at once", "Ask me first" or "Off". Every row starts at "Ask me first". "Off" leaves that kind of change out: Spot and your agent cannot make it, and are told so.
  • A change made at once shows in the Spot panel as applied, with "Take back" for a day, and in the autopilot log. A change that cannot be taken back, such as a pipeline run that has started, says so on its card first.
  • "Daily limits" sets how many changes of a kind apply at once in a day. Past the limit, the next one waits for you as a card. The day is counted in UTC.
  • An owner can hold a kind of change for the whole account. An owner's hold keeps that row at "Ask me first" or "Off" for everyone, whatever each person sets.
  • "Always ask first on these projects" keeps every change on a project you list as a card.
  • "Set everything to ask" puts every row back at "Ask me first". It does not end a mandate.

Some changes wait for you as a card whatever a row says: a change whose card carries a warning, such as banned wording in a draft, triaging a reply, approving suggested keywords, creating or archiving a project, writing to or rating the support team, a mandate request, and what you confirm happened outside the platform. Renaming the account and updating your profile follow "Tidying up", though no mandate reaches them. Emails and posts to publishers wait for you as a card unless their row, "Emails and posts to publishers", applies at once, which takes a second press to set. Every email still passes the same send checks as yours, the do-not-contact list and one pitch per person among them, and an email your agent sends now also keeps the mailbox's sending hours and its daily limit, counted across every project that sends from it. Some always wait for you as a card, whatever a row says: resuming a pitch into a conversation or past a hold, and sending again an email the mail provider may already have delivered. A mandate never lets your agent send on its own, and an email that went cannot be taken back.

These always wait for you as a card, whatever a row says: recording a placement, confirming placements as live, and an edit of a placement's live state, address or live date. Only you confirm that a page is live, and each feeds the client report, its live links and the record of what worked. So does what you confirm happened outside the platform: recording an email as delivered after you found it in your Sent folder, a page draft as sent from your own mail or a contact made elsewhere, marking a conversation won or a post as posted, and lifting a do-not-contact entry.

Where cards land

  • Spot's cards appear in the Spot panel, under the answer that asked for them. The row buttons in an answer (Park, Promote, Bring back, Remove, Outline it, Outline the changes) also ask for a card. The card lands under that answer, and pressing the row button applies nothing. Reopen a thread from "Your threads" and its cards show as you left them.
  • Your agent's cards come first in the Spot panel on their project, under "Waiting for you: 2 cards from your agent". They also wait on Settings, Agents, under "Waiting for you". Both places show the same card, so you can decide it in either one.
  • A link, and the card in your agent's chat. When your agent leaves a card, it can hand you a link that opens Settings, Agents with that card first and outlined. In agent apps that show interactive cards, such as Claude, ChatGPT and VS Code, the card also appears right in the chat, with one action: "Open in sourcesignal". You apply or dismiss it here, signed in, never in the chat. A link to a change applied without a card shows it with "Take back" while you can still take it back, and a link to a card that no longer waits says what became of it.
  • Press the same row button again while its card is open, and you get that card back, not a second one. The same holds when your agent asks for the same change twice.

What Apply produces lands where you already work:

CardWhere the result lands
"Park N pages"Opportunities, as Parked. The pages leave the deck
"Bring back N pages"Opportunities, as New or Approved
"Promote N pages"Outreach, as drafts for your review
"Research contacts for N pages"Each page, as contacts are found
"Draft N nudges"Outreach, as drafts for your approval
"Leave a reply ready for <name>" or "Draft a reply to <name>"The Inbox: the row says Reply ready, and the reply box opens with it
"Remove N keywords"Keywords, under Archived
"Outline a page on <topic>"Content, Articles, for your review
"Check your site again"Content, Technical
"Read your homepage again" or "Read your whole site"Rediscover, on Prompts and Competitors
"New rule for <project>" or "Focus for today's deck"Chips in the deck header, and the Engine room

A card that signs off, launches or sends an email does so when you press Apply, or at once where "Emails and posts to publishers" says so, never under a mandate. Every other draft a card produces waits for your approval, and a reply your agent leaves ready waits in the conversation.

Limits

  • You can hold up to 20 open cards per project. At 20, no new card is made until you decide some, and a row button says "You have 20 open cards on this project. Decide some first."
  • A bulk change touches at most 200 rows.
  • A keyword card adds at most 50 keywords, a competitor card at most 10 brands, and a nudge card at most 10 drafts.
  • Contact research is checked against today's research allowance when you apply.

Good to know

  • A card acts only on rows that are still in the state it saw when it was made. Rows that moved in between are left alone and counted in the result.
  • A park never moves a page with a verified live placement, and a page with an email mid-flight stays put.
  • Under a mandate you approved, your agent can make the changes it names on its own, up to the decisions and paid work a day you set. A change made under a mandate shows as applied, with "Take back" for a day, and in the autopilot log, for example "Your agent parked 6 pages under its mandate." Everything else follows your setting, or stays a card for you. See Agent scopes and limits.
  • Your agent can take back its own change for a day, or withdraw its own card. A card it withdrew reads "Your agent withdrew this card." and changed nothing; a change it took back says what your agent put back. It never takes back a change you applied.
  • No card, no agent and no mandate can pay anyone, change billing, members or access, or connect a mailbox, and no mandate sends an email or a post.
