Use frequency to notice repetition, not manufacture it.

Sometimes a repeated phrase is necessary terminology. Sometimes it makes a paragraph feel mechanical. This checker gives you reproducible counts so you can see the pattern and then read the passage with context. It does not tell you to reach a particular percentage.

Paste your text and optionally name a word or phrase. The result shows total word tokens, distinct normalized terms, phrase occurrences and target-word coverage. A frequency table lists the top 25 individual terms, including common words that other counters may silently remove.

A practical workflow

How to use the Keyword density checker

  • Paste the passage you want to compare

    Use up to 16,000 input characters. Choose a consistent scope, such as the article body, so menus or boilerplate do not distort comparisons.

  • Add an optional exact phrase

    Enter the wording you want counted. Leave it empty if you only need the word totals and the most frequent individual terms.

  • Read before you rewrite

    Find the repeated passages in context. Keep necessary terminology, remove redundant sentences and use the table’s CSV export when a spreadsheet helps.

The counting method

How words and phrase matches are counted

The tool applies NFKC Unicode normalization, lowercases the text and uses Unicode word segmentation. Compatibility forms and capitalization can therefore converge. It does not stem words or combine synonyms: garden, gardens and gardening remain distinct terms.

Phrase matching follows the resulting word sequence. Matches can overlap and cross punctuation-delimited sentence boundaries. If sentence-specific occurrences matter to your editorial question, inspect those passages manually rather than treating the aggregate count as that answer.

Interpreting the table

The most frequent term is not always the most important one.

Common function words remain in the top-term table. That makes the method transparent, but words such as the or and may outrank the subject in frequency. The table describes the input; it does not label those terms as commercially valuable keywords.

Target-word coverage is the share of all tokens covered by complete target matches. It differs from dividing phrase occurrences by total words, particularly for multi-word phrases and overlaps. Compare like-for-like measures and document the text scope when sharing a result.

An editorial decision

There is no percentage that guarantees rankings.

Use the counts to locate repetition, not to insert a phrase until a target is reached. A useful explanation may need repeated technical language; an awkward paragraph may need restructuring rather than a synonym swap. Search demand, competition and ranking performance are not measured by this tool.

What is the ideal keyword density?

This tool does not prescribe one. Density is a description of the supplied text, not a ranking threshold. Prioritize an accurate answer and natural language over increasing a percentage.

Does the checker remove stop words?

No. All normalized word tokens are retained, including common function words. The top 25 table is therefore reproducible without an undisclosed exclusion list.

Are singular and plural forms combined?

No. The matcher normalizes case and Unicode compatibility forms, but does not perform stemming or infer semantic similarity. Related forms remain separate unless their normalized tokens are identical.

Can phrase matches overlap?

Yes. In “red red red,” the phrase “red red” appears twice. Coverage counts the three covered tokens once each, rather than counting the overlapping middle word twice.

Can a match cross a sentence boundary?

Yes. Punctuation is treated as a word boundary, not a separate sentence constraint. Review the original passage if your question depends on where sentences begin and end.

Does the tool fetch a page URL?

No. This checker uses pasted text only. Select the relevant page content yourself, and use the same selection when comparing drafts so the word totals remain meaningful.

Does the table show search volume?

No. Occurrences and shares come entirely from the submitted passage. The tool does not query search engines, demand data or competitor pages.
