How this tool worksChecks readable third-party pages cited in a recent AI-answer sample for the exact brand names you supply. Missing or unreadable content is inconclusive. Suggested inclusion approaches are editorial recommendations, not confirmed placement offers.

Compare coverage inside cited pages

Find the evidence behind a competitor citation gap

Enter your brand, website, one buyer question and up to two competitor names. Choose ChatGPT, Gemini or both. The tool checks readable third-party pages cited in a recent answer sample.

A coverage match means the extracted page text contains the exact supplied brand or competitor name. Read the excerpt and open the source before planning any response. An unreadable page, missing extraction or unavailable answer remains inconclusive rather than becoming evidence that a name is absent.

Example

Follow the gap back to readable source text

A fictional Harbor example separates the cited page, an exact competitor match and an editorial suggestion. None of these values is a live result.

Keep the actual source URL and engine attribution. A search-result URL alone is not evidence that an AI answer cited this page.

A practical workflow

How to use the AI citation gap finder

  • Enter exact names and one buyer question

Use the brand name as it appears publicly, add your website and enter no more than two competitors, one per line.

  • Run a bounded engine sample

Choose ChatGPT, Gemini or both, then keep the country and language with the requested and completed engine counts.

  • Open every useful source

Review the excerpt, extraction status and source URL. Save the evidence separately from any suggested inclusion approach.

Question, source, opportunity

Trace a possible gap back to the cited page

This fictional Harbor example shows how to move from a neutral buyer question to page evidence and a cautious editorial suggestion.

Ask one specific buyer question

Use exact names for the brand and up to two competitors. Keep the question neutral when you want to observe which brands arise without being prompted.

What the matches mean

Keep observed text separate from interpretation

The finder checks readable text from third-party pages cited in the sampled answers. It reports exact-name matches for your brand and supplied competitors, with excerpts and engine attribution when that evidence is available.

A competitor appearing on a cited page does not prove that the mention caused the citation. Your brand being unmatched does not prove that the page excludes it deliberately, that the wider site never mentions it or that every engine overlooks it.

  • Observed

A supplied exact name appears in readable extracted page text, with the page URL and excerpt retained.

  • Inconclusive

The page could not be read, the requested answer did not complete or the source could not be established.

  • Suggested

An editorial inclusion approach is a next-step idea based on the page, not a confirmed opportunity.

Bounded data scope

What this citation sample does not cover

Each run is a recent sample for one question and the selected engines. It excludes your supplied domain from the third-party opportunity set. It does not cover the whole web, monitor answers over time or infer citations from ordinary search-result URLs.

AI answers and their sources can change between runs. Keep the requested and completed engine counts, timestamp, country, language and actual source URLs with an export so another reader can understand the limits of the observation.

Pick a question and I’ll explain how this tool works.

Which AI engines can I compare?

You can compare ChatGPT, Gemini or both for the single buyer question. Results can differ between engines and runs.

How many competitor names can I enter?

Enter up to two exact competitor names, one per line. Matches use the names you supply, so aliases and alternative spellings are not silently treated as the same company.

Does a competitor mention prove why the page was cited?

No. It establishes that the readable extracted page contains the supplied name. It does not establish why an engine cited that page or whether the mention influenced the answer.

What does no brand match mean?

It means the exact supplied brand name was not found in the readable text extracted from that page. It is not evidence of absence from the whole site, the web or other AI answers.

What happens when a cited page cannot be read?

The page remains inconclusive. An extraction failure or blocked page is not converted into an observed zero or a claim that neither brand appears.

Are the inclusion approaches confirmed opportunities?

No. They are editorial suggestions derived from the observed page topic and coverage. Check the publication, its audience and its contribution rules before acting.

Does the tool contact publishers or change my site?

No. It returns reviewable evidence and suggestions. It does not send outreach, place links, edit pages or publish content.
