Best AI SEO tools in 2026: 10 tools compared by the job they do
Ten AI SEO tools compared by the job they do best, from AI answer tracking and content optimisation to classic SEO data and source outreach.
By Matt Cayless · · 12 min read
We build SourceSignal, and it is first on this list. Treat that as a declared interest.
To keep the list useful anyway, we checked every other tool against its own product and pricing pages on 3 October 2026, and we say plainly where each one is the better choice.
AI SEO tools now cover two different jobs. One is classic SEO with AI built in: keyword research, briefs, on-page optimisation and audits, done faster. The other is visibility inside AI answers: what ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and the rest say when buyers ask, and which pages those answers lean on.
Most teams need some of both. The tools below are ranked, but each entry also says what job it suits and where it hands off, so you can pick by the work you actually need done.
The shortlist
Prices are the cheapest monthly plan that covers the job named, as listed on 3 October 2026. Annual billing is cheaper on most of them.

Four jobs
Most AI SEO tools are built around one of four jobs
Classic suites cover search demand, links and audits. Content tools help you write and refresh pages. AI visibility monitors show what the engines say and cite. Outreach tools help you earn a place on someone else's page. Few tools do more than two of these well.

How we chose and ranked them
We started from the tools that keep appearing in AI SEO roundups and kept the ones that do a distinct job well. General chatbots and pure writing assistants are left out: they help with SEO tasks, but they are not SEO tools.
For each tool we checked:
what it does in AI search: tracking answers, showing the pages they cite and the gaps against competitors
what it does for classic SEO: keywords, content optimisation, links and audits
what happens after it finds a gap, and how much of that work it carries
the cheapest plan that covers the job, and whether there is a free way in
The ranking gives most weight to the third point. Finding a gap is now common. Turning it into work someone can finish is not.
Prices and plan limits change often, so confirm them on the vendor's site before you buy.
1. SourceSignal
Best for: brands, in-house teams, consultants and agencies that want to turn AI visibility findings into action.
SourceSignal is an AI visibility and source-intelligence platform. It tracks the buyer questions you choose across up to nine AI engines, keeps the answers and shows which third-party pages appear alongside the recommendations.
Where it stands out is what happens after the tracking. Source gaps become a prioritised opportunity queue: which pages keep appearing for a topic, whether competitors are on them, how relevant each page is and the most realistic next step. For an approved opportunity it finds and verifies a contact, drafts the sequence and waits for a person to approve it. Emails go from your own Gmail or Outlook inbox.
Reporting puts verified wins on the same timeline as AI visibility, so you can review what changed after the work without treating it as proof of cause.
Where it stops: it is not an SEO suite. There is no keyword database, backlink index or technical crawler, so most teams run it beside one. It is also the newest tool here, with little public review history yet.
Pricing: a free plan with no card and no time limit (onboarding is invite-only for now), plus a free AI Visibility Scorecard for up to three buyer questions. Paid plans start at $99 a month for one project, 30 pooled prompts and 3 engines. Growth is $299 and Agency $999. Read our full SourceSignal review.
Illustrative product preview. Northpeak’s opportunity queue: 8 cited pages ranked by a relative grade, with the engines that cite each page, how many of 13 weekly refreshes cited it, the rivals on it and the action to take. Saved views narrow the queue to the job in hand. The grade ranks this queue; it is not a forecast.

2. Semrush One
Best for: marketing teams and agencies that want classic SEO data and AI answer tracking in one large suite.
Semrush One combines the SEO Toolkit with the AI Visibility Toolkit. Prompt tracking runs daily on ChatGPT Search, Google AI Mode and Gemini, keeps a snapshot of each answer and ranks the domains it cites. A Sources report lists the cited domains and URLs, and competitor research shows the prompts where rivals are cited and you are not. Content optimisation arrives on the Pro+ tier.
Where it stops: it shows which third-party pages the engines lean on, but contacting them needs the separately priced AI PR Toolkit or another tool, and we found nothing that ties a pitch back to later AI visibility.
Pricing: the SEO-only plan is $139 a month and does not include AI visibility. Semrush One starts at $199 a month with 50 daily prompts, and the standalone AI Visibility Toolkit is $99 a month per domain. There is a limited free plan and a 7-day trial that needs a card.
3. Ahrefs
Best for: SEO teams already working in Ahrefs' link and keyword data who want AI visibility measured at scale in the same place.
Brand Radar's AI Visibility Index runs a very large set of prompts, drawn from Ahrefs' keyword data, through AI Overviews, AI Mode, ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Copilot, and stores every answer with its mentions and citations. Custom prompts track your own questions on a daily, weekly or monthly schedule, and every paid plan includes a small daily allowance. AI Content Helper, in the Content Kit add-on, grades drafts against the pages that rank.
Where it stops: it finds who the engines cite and which sites are worth approaching, but finding contacts, running outreach and connecting wins back to visibility happen elsewhere.
Pricing: Lite is $129 a month and includes five custom prompts. Brand Radar AI starts at $199 a month, and extra prompt checks start at $50 a month. Ahrefs Free covers limited site tools for your own site, and there is no trial.
4. Peec AI
Best for: marketing and SEO teams that want focused AI search analytics with strong source analysis, without buying an SEO suite.
Peec tracks prompts daily across the models you choose: three on self-serve plans, from a list that includes ChatGPT, AI Mode, AI Overviews, Copilot and Gemini. Every answer opens in full, with the brands mentioned and the URLs cited. Its gap analysis shows sources that name competitors but not you, down to the URL, and ranked recommendations separate earned actions from owned ones.
Where it stops: it tells you which third-party pages to win, but finding contacts, pitching and following up are left to your team.
Pricing: Starter is $95 a month (€85 in Europe) for 50 prompts on three models, with unlimited users. There is a 7-day trial with no card.
5. Surfer
Best for: content teams that write and refresh articles and want AI visibility tracked next to the editor.
Surfer's Content Editor scores drafts and now guides them for AI citations as well as rankings. Its AI Tracker follows prompts on ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Mode, AI Overviews and Gemini, shows the sources the engines relied on and flags mention gaps against competitors. Its recommendations include an off-page list of heavily cited sources that ignore or criticise you.
Where it stops: once the gap is a third-party page rather than your own, Surfer hands you the list. Contacts, pitching and measuring the outcome need other tools.
Pricing: Discovery is $59 a month without AI tracking. Standard, at $119, tracks 25 prompts weekly on ChatGPT only, and all five engines with daily tracking start on Pro at $219. AI Search Analytics is also sold alone from $95 a month for 50 prompts. There is a 7-day Pro trial that needs a card.
6. SE Ranking
Best for: agencies and budget-conscious teams that want rank tracking, audits and white-label client reporting, with AI visibility for less than the big suites.
SE Ranking covers the classic jobs: rank tracking, audits, competitor research and content tools. Its AI visibility product, SE Visible, collects answers from ChatGPT, Gemini, AI Mode, Perplexity and AI Overviews through a real browser, and shows mentions, sentiment, share of voice and the domains and URLs cited.
Where it stops: the source data can inform an outreach plan, but finding contacts, pitching and proving the effect are left to another tool or person.
Pricing: Core is $129 a month, and white-label comes with the Agency Pack from $69 a month on annual billing. SE Visible starts at $99 a month for 200 prompts. There is a 14-day trial with no card.
7. Search Atlas
Best for: agencies and owner-operators who want software to make on-site changes and run link outreach for them, and who are comfortable supervising automation on live sites.
OTTO SEO installs through a pixel or DNS and pushes technical, on-page, schema and internal-link fixes live, with an approval mode. LLM Visibility tracks visibility, sentiment and share of voice and lists the domains the engines cite. Its link-building tool finds publishers and contacts and sends pitch sequences from your connected inbox, with reply tracking.
Where it stops: its outreach is built around link prospects filtered by authority, traffic and AI visibility rather than the specific pages the engines cite for your tracked prompts, and we found nothing tying a pitch to later AI visibility. Automated edits to a live site also need someone watching.
Pricing: Starter is $99 a month without LLM visibility. Growth, at $199, adds 100 LLM visibility queries on three engines. There is a 7-day trial with a free onboarding session.
8. Frase
Best for: small content teams and solo marketers who want research, writing, publishing and basic AI citation tracking in one low-cost tool.
Frase's agent researches, drafts and optimises content with SEO and GEO scores, and can publish to WordPress, Webflow and other CMSs. AI Visibility tracks prompts daily, shows which of your URLs are cited and where, and compares share of voice with chosen competitors. Content Guard watches for decaying pages and proposes fixes. Its backlink research drafts an outreach email for each prospect, which you send yourself.
Where it stops: lower tiers track only ChatGPT and Google AI, and the outreach is built on backlink gaps rather than the third-party pages AI cites. Pitching those pages and measuring the result are left to you.
Pricing: Starter is $49 a month with 50 tracked prompts on ChatGPT and Google AI. Professional, at $129, adds Perplexity and 200 prompts. There is a 7-day trial with no card.
9. Clearscope
Best for: editorial teams that care most about content quality and want a simple read on how often AI recommends their brand.
Clearscope's strength is content guidance: topic discovery, a writing assistant, optimisation by search intent and monitoring of published pages. Query Tracking adds your brand's mention rate in AI answers for chosen queries, and highlights where competitors keep being recommended instead of you.
Where it stops: it helps you fix your own pages, but it does not go deep on cited sources or help with third-party outreach.
Pricing: Essentials is $129 a month for 50 tracked queries and unlimited users, billed monthly. There is a 14-day trial.
10. BuzzStream
Best for: link-building and digital PR teams that run personalised outreach and need a CRM for prospects, contacts and follow-ups.
BuzzStream is not an AI visibility tool. It is a mature outreach CRM: contact discovery, templates, tracked sends and, from the Growth plan, bulk sending and automated follow-ups. ListIQ, sold separately, uses AI to build media lists and check that journalists are still active.
Where it stops: it cannot tell you which pages AI engines cite for your prompts or whether a placement changed AI visibility, so it needs another tool to choose targets and measure results.
Pricing: Starter is $49 a month for one user. Growth, with bulk sending and follow-ups, is $174. There is a 14-day trial.
Where each tool fits
Most of these tools now track AI answers in some form. The real differences are what they do with a gap once they find it, and how much classic SEO data comes with them.
Partial means the tool covers part of the job, needs a separate product or arrives on a higher plan.

How to choose
Start with the job, not the feature list.
You need keyword, link and audit data first. Semrush One, Ahrefs or SE Ranking. All three now add AI visibility, at a price.
Your team's output is content. Surfer, Frase or Clearscope, depending on how much AI tracking and publishing you want in the same tool.
You want to see what AI engines say and cite, in depth. Peec AI, or SourceSignal if you also want to act on what you find.
You need to win places on third-party pages. SourceSignal picks the pages from the answers themselves and carries the work through approval and measurement. BuzzStream is the stronger CRM if your targets come from somewhere else.
Most teams end up with two tools: one for classic SEO and one for AI visibility. If you are only comparing AI visibility platforms, our comparison of the best AI visibility tools goes deeper on that category.
