# Languages and a second country

> Prompts are checked in one country per project, chosen from seven markets. A second country is a second project, and your plan sets how many projects and pooled prompts you have. The product is built and tested for English questions.

A project checks every one of its prompts in one country: the first country on its target markets list. When you sell in two countries, or your buyers ask AI in another language, this page tells you what a project can and cannot do about it, and what it costs to cover more.

You come here before you create a project for a second market, when you wonder whether a prompt in another language will work, and when you want to know what the free report and the free tools cover.

## Which markets you can track in

The "Target markets" chooser (on the "Your brand" step of the setup wizard, and later under "Project details" in the project's Settings) offers seven markets, each at most once, in this order: Worldwide, United States, United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, Canada and New Zealand. You can list as many as you sell into. The list is ordered, and the order is the priority: the counter reads "N chosen · first is primary", and the first country carries the note "prompts are checked here".

Worldwide is a market like any other on the list, with one difference: it cannot be the check country. It carries the note "the plan is not shaped to one country". A project with only Worldwide chosen is checked from the United States.

See [Markets and locations](https://www.sourcesignal.ai/docs/tracking/markets-and-locations.md) for the chooser and what the first country changes.

## One country per project

Every prompt in a project is asked as a searcher located in the project's first country. There is no per-prompt country and no second check country in the same project. On the [pricing page](https://www.sourcesignal.ai/pricing), this is the "Primary markets" row: one per project on Brand, Growth and Agency, custom on Enterprise.

Listing a second market lower on the list does not check anything there. As the chooser's helper line says, the rest shape the tracking plan: the questions and competitors the setup wizard and the site read propose. The prompts are still checked in the first country.

Keywords are the exception: each keyword has a "Market" of its own, "Project default" or one of the six countries. See [Keywords](https://www.sourcesignal.ai/docs/tracking/keywords.md).

## A second country is a second project

To check prompts in a second country, create a second project for the same brand with that country first on its list. Each project has its own prompts, competitors, engines and settings, so you can track the questions buyers in that country ask.

### How to add a project for a second country

1. On the Projects page, press "New project". The setup wizard opens on "Your brand".
2. Enter the same "Brand name" and "Website". Under "Target markets", add the second country and move it to the top with "Higher priority". With the United States first, you can also add the states you serve.
3. Walk the rest of the wizard: keep the service areas, competitors and prompts that fit that market, then press "Switch tracking on". See [Set up your first project](https://www.sourcesignal.ai/docs/getting-started/set-up-your-first-project.md).

Afterward, each project card on the Projects page reads brand name · industry · primary market under the project name, and the project switcher carries the same line in its hover hint, so two projects for one brand stay easy to tell apart.

### What it costs

A second project spends a project from your plan, and its prompts come out of the same pool as your first project's.

| Plan | Brand/client projects | Tracked prompts, pooled across projects |
|---|---|---|
| Brand | 1 | 30 |
| Growth | 5 | 200 |
| Agency | 15 | 750 |
| Enterprise | Custom | Custom |

- A new project past your count is refused: "Your Growth plan allows 5 projects. Upgrade to add more." Archiving a project frees its place.
- The prompt pool is shared by every project in the workspace, split as you like. A question you track in both projects counts once in each. Past the pool, adding, importing or restoring a prompt is refused with the count in use: "Your Growth plan tracks 200 prompts across all projects (200 in use). Upgrade or remove some to add another."
- Each project chooses its own AI engines, up to your plan's count per project. They are not shared, so the second project picks its own set.

See [Plans and limits](https://www.sourcesignal.ai/docs/account-and-billing/plans-and-limits.md) for the full table and what happens when you move to a smaller plan.

> **Tip:** On Brand, one project is the plan. To cover a second country you need Growth or above, or a different first country on the project you have.

## States, cities and Worldwide in local questions

**States** appear only while the United States is on the list. Open "Add states", search with "Find a state…" and press the states you serve; the list covers the 50 states and the District of Columbia, in the order you pick them. With none picked, the counter reads "None picked · nationwide". The helper line says what states do: "Shapes how buyer questions are phrased (“best … in Texas”) and which competitors are proposed, in this order. Prompts are still checked country-wide." Removing the United States drops the states when you save.

**Proposed questions** from the setup wizard and the site read can carry your country or one of your states in their wording, as the helper's example "best … in Texas" shows. Not every proposal names a place. You decide which proposals to keep, and the wording of every prompt stays yours to change. With Worldwide chosen, the plan is not shaped to one country.

**Cities** are yours to type. A local question gets its place from its own words, so write "best dentist in Austin" on the [Prompts](https://www.sourcesignal.ai/docs/tracking/prompts.md) page and that is what the engines are asked. No setting pins a prompt to a city or a state, and the question is still asked as a searcher in the project's first country.

## Prompts in another language

A prompt is the text you type, up to 500 characters, and nothing stops you typing it in another language. The engines are asked the question as written.

The product is built and tested for English questions, and the six countries on the market list are English-speaking. We do not promise results for a question in another language.

## What the free report and the free tools support

The [free AI visibility report](https://www.sourcesignal.ai/free-report) takes up to three questions, each 4 to 300 characters, and the same seven markets: Worldwide, United States, United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, Canada and New Zealand. The market follows your domain's country code until you pick one yourself, so a .co.uk domain starts on the United Kingdom and a .com domain on the United States. A Worldwide report names no country and is asked from the United States, and the form says so when you pick it. The report is English only. See [The free AI visibility report](https://www.sourcesignal.ai/docs/free-tools/the-free-ai-visibility-report.md).

The [free tools](https://www.sourcesignal.ai/tools) are English only too:

- Live research and evidence tools take a "Search market" (United States, United Kingdom, Canada or Australia) and a "Language", which is English. The domain authority checker takes only a domain.
- AI writing tools take a "Language", which is English.
- Analysis tools can read a page in any language, but their audience, action-label, definition and attribution checks use English patterns. Read those findings on a non-English page as cues to review, not as failures.

## Good to know

- When prompts in your Ahrefs Brand Radar report are filed under a different country than your first country, the Ahrefs Brand Radar card in the project's Settings says so. Press "Sync prompts now" there to re-file them.
- In Opportunities, the "Filters" panel's "Location" group has "Match this project’s markets", which checks the locations that fit the markets you listed.
- A project with no market set is checked from the United States until you choose one. The chooser asks for at least one: "Pick at least one target market. The first decides which country every prompt is checked in."
